A Tested Conservative

First elected to the House of Representatives in 2016, Heidi Sampson has been front-and-center on some of the hardest fought policy battles facing the Maine State Legislature.

Known for holding the line on spending, Rep. Heidi Sampson has demonstrated time and time again to her constituents that a "government Maine can afford" is worth fighting for.

Putting Students First

Chosen by Gov. Paul LePage to serve on the State Board of Education, the challenge of reforming our education system brought Heidi to Augusta, where she drew from decades of experience as a homeschool advocate, coach and mentor to children.

Today, she serves on the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs, where she has been able to continue her work to ensure that tax dollars are actually getting to the classroom. Her proudest moments on this committee include the repeal Maine's proficiency-based education mandate, and a renewed emphasis on CTE (Career and Technical Education) programming.

Honoring Maine's Veterans

Growing up in a military family provided Rep. Sampson with the perspective that doing what's best for veterans- of every branch and from every war- is more than marching in parades or hosting Memorial Day Barbecues. In her first term in office, Rep. Sampson worked across party lines to improve the transition from the military to the civilian workforce, and has continued advocating for the veterans in her district and throughout Maine ever since.

A Government Maine can Afford

Representative Sampson was sent to the Legislature by the people of House District 21 to reign in spending and to promote accountability within state government: a promise she delivered on early in her career. She was one of only 54 legislators in 2017 willing to shut down state government in order to hold the line on unnecessary tax increases on the people of Maine.

Parental Choice in Vaccinations

Outraged by the government overreach enacted into law with LD 798, Rep. Heidi Sampson collected over one thousand petitions in the summer of 2019 to overturn this unprecedented law through a people's veto campaign, sending the measure to voters in March of 2020.
